Don't expect the usual brand of bloodsuckers in Jim Jarmusch's upcoming vampire film, Only Lovers Left Alive . The director has already revealed that there won't be the usual neck biting and cheesy mirror tricks we're normally presented with in vamp films. Tom Hiddleston plays Adam, a depressed, underground musician (described as a moody "Hamlet-like" character) who reunites with his lover through the centuries, Eve (Tilda Swinton). They find their passionate homecoming interrupted by Eve's wild sister, Ava (Mia Wasikowska). John Hurt and Anton Yelchin also star in the Cannes contender, which premiers on May 25.
In two new clips from The Playlist, we see sparks flying between the couple and a bit of Ava's child-like personality rearing its head. Also, it's always great to see an artsy "lair" that looks authentic. The teasers are short, but have us even more excited to see what Jarmusch does with the vampire genre — undoubtedly something extremely effing cool. This is Jarmusch's first project since 2009's The Limits of Control, so we're delighted to see the New York indie filmmaking icon back in the spotlight.
