The almighty dollar rules all — even the reanimated and rotting sacks of flesh and bones known as zombies. They may be dead (mostly), but the fearful fleshmunchers are a pop culture cash cow that keeps on giving. Website Wish.co.uk created an infographic that breaks down "Zombie Economics." Over the past four years, the undead have generated $5.74 billion in revenue thanks to numerous films, TV shows, videogames, and more.
As far as movies go, the website counts tales like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides as zombie flicks, which featured a zombified crew running Blackbeard's ship. The movie ranked as number on in terms of profit ($1,043,663,875). Zombieland, the Dawn of the Dead remake, Hotel Transylvania, and Resident Evil: Afterlife also made the list as the biggest zombie moneymakers. Overall, zombie movies are still the reigning champ when it comes to zombie economics ($2.5 billion in four years), with games ($2.5 billion), and comic books/magazines/TV coming in third ($50 million). What does this teach us? That there are hordes of zombie films waiting for us in the future, and the undead have great appeal no matter how bad they smell. [via Design Taxi]
