Dark Places : Still just 16 years of age, Chloe Moretz is negotiating the challenging territory between child star and adult actress. Her latest move is a likely team-up with Charlize Theron in the big-screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s best-selling Dark Places. If negotiations are successful, Moretz would play a key role in the mystery thriller, which is being adapted by Gilles Paquet-Brenner (Sarah’s Key), who will also direct. Moretz will play starring roles in Kick-Ass 2 and Carrie later this year. [Deadline]
Romeo and Juliet : Movie and TV stars routinely appear on Broadway -- Tom Hanks and Alec Baldwin are currently starring in separate shows -- but it’s not as often that actors go from Middle Earth to the Great White Way. Orlando Bloom, who gained reknown from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, will make his Broadway debut opposite Condola Rashad in a new, interracial version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet; the play begins previews in August with opening night set for September 19. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Trailer: Whereas the previous teaser established the atmosphere, the new trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones seeks to cram as much weapon-wielding, ass-kicking action as possible into its brief running time. Lily Collins stars as a teen girl who is drawn into a mysterious world of angels, demons, and warriors; the movie is out on August 23. [Collider]
This is the End Trailer: The guys behind apocalyptic comedy This is the End released a hilarious fake trailer for Pineapple Express 2 yesterday in honor of April Fool’s Day, but the new red-band trailer for the real movie is no laughing matter. Well, actually it is, but the red-band is for some explicit bloodshed, as well as extreme profanities and a very violent Emma Watson. James Franco and Seth Rogen lead the all-star cast; look for the movie in theaters on June 12. [The Film Stage]
