There’s been all kinds of speculation about what’s next for The Incredible Hulk after Mark Ruffalo made the character cool again in The Avengers (ok, we’ve always thought Hulk was cool, but his solo movies haven’t resonated with mainstream audiences in the way Marvel had hoped). First it was rumors that the character would be getting his own new franchise in a series of Planet Hulk /World War Hulk films, then it was whispering that he’d be appearing in Iron Man 3 based on the appearance of the “Hulk-buster” armor in the trailer. So, what is the Green Goliath up to next? The answer from Ruffalo might disappoint you, true believer…
The actor took to Twitter to set the record straight once and for all, tweeting:
“A lot of folks have been asking about the Next Hulk. The next time you see my Hulk it will be in the Avengers2. No plans for stand alone.”
He followed that up with this:
“I am not giving up on another stand alone Hulk. But it’s not in the works right now. One never knows what the future will bring.”
Coupling these comments with Joss Whedon’s recent debunking of the Planet Hulk rumors would seemingly indicate that there really are no plans afoot currently to bring those comics to the screen or give Hulk his own franchise at this point. Feels like a bit of a missed opportunity to us, but Marvel’s had a pretty good handle on what will work with the fans.
Are you bummed that it appears as though The Hulk will not be turning up in cameo roles in films like Thor 2 or Iron Man 3 or are you okay with the character staying solely in The Avengers film for the time being?
