Movie News: Machine-Gun Sheen in 'Machete Kills' Pic; Trailers for Keanu Reeves' 'Man of Tai Chi' and '47 Ronin'

Machete Kills

Machete Kills : Charlie Sheen looks like a grindhouse U.S. President in a new image and poster for Robert Rodriguez' Machete Kills, which finds Danny Trejo once again engaged in a butt-kicking mission, this time at the behest of the Prez. Sheen is billed as Carlos Estevez -- his given name -- in an international poster for the movie, which is headed to theaters in the U.S. on October 11. [The Playlist]

Rock the Kasbah : Bill Murray is heading to Afghanistan. He will star in Rock the Kasbah, which follows a music manager who ends up lost in Afghanistan while on tour with his only client, only to discover a rising young singer who wants to compete in the country's equivalent of American Idol. Barry Levinson (Rain Man) is set to direct, based on a script by Mitch Glazer, who co-wrote Murray's 1988 comedy Scrooged. [Deadline]

Alejandro Jodorowsky: Celebrated as a visionary, filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky gained cult fame in the 1970s with the hallucinatory movies El Topo and The Holy Mountain. And now he is going to space -- sort of. An asteroid has been named after him, as requested by the French astronomer who discovered the object in 2005. Jodorowsky's Dune, a documentary about his failed effort to make a movie based on Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel, will screen at the Toronto film festival. [Heat Vision]

Man of Tai Chi Trailer: Keanu Reeves has not one, but two upcoming martial arts epics. His directorial debut, Man of Tai Chi, opened quietly earlier this summer in China; after screening at the Toronto fest next week, it will bow on VOD later in the month and then hit theaters on November 1. It's a somewhat traditional teacher / student type of drama, set in the modern day, and stars Tiger Chen, with Reeves in a supporting role.

47 Ronin International Trailer: Produced on a much larger scale, and filled with gorgeous CGI beasts and other visual effects, 47 Ronin is firmly in the period / fantasy camp, and represents the directorial debut of Carl Rinsch. A new international trailer, dubbed into Russian but with English sutitles, showcases the beasts. The movie, also starring Rinko Kikuchi (Pacific Rim) will land in theaters on December 25.
