Movie News: 'Star Wars Episode 7' Shooting on Film; Trailers for 'Mandy Lane' (Teen Horror) and 'The Hobbit' (LEGO Version)

Star Trek

Star Wars Episode VII : Longtime Star Wars fans should be cheered by the news that J.J. Abrams is returning the franchise to the 35mm universe. The original trilogy and Episode I were all shot in 35mm, while Episode II and Episode III switched to digital, which was still a somewhat fledgling process at the time. Frequent Abrams cinematographer Dan Mindel (Mission: Impossible 3, Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness), who taught Abrams how to create lens flares, has been hired as director of photography. To Be Two : While his older brother Ben startled the world by agreeing to play Batman, younger brother Casey Affleck has decided he wants to make a sci-fi movie too. But no capes or cowls will be involved in To Be Two; instead, Casey will reunite with his Ain't Those Bodies Saints director David Lowery for a "thinking man's sci-fi tale." Lowery will adapt a short story by Paul Broks about identity, the self, and teleportation. Both Affleck and Lowery have several, separate projects lined up, so it may be a while before we see their next collaboration. [Heat Vision]

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane Trailer: Seven years after debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival -- and then disappearing into legal and distribution limbo -- All the Boys Love Mandy Lane will finally be available to watch via various VOD platforms on September 6, ahead of a limited theatrical run on October 11. Amber Heard stars as a high school girl whose affections are highly sought after, until boys begin dropping like dead flies all around her. [YouTube]

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Trailer: The second installment of Peter Jackson's big-screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's book, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will dominate multiplexes on December 13. But you don't have to wait that long to take a gander at the amazing world created for the flm, as interpreted by The Brotherhood Workshop and their awesome version of the movie's trailer -- created entirely from the LEGO universe.
