In this great, big Internet of ours, mashups are a dime a dozen. A new YouTube account, the plainly titled FaceMashups, aims to give the familiar meme a twist by animating "two-faced" stars. It's similar to that Conan O’Brien sketch, but with an added grotesque absurdity. "Through some clever — and tedious — masking, motion stabilization, and motion tracking, I am able to lock the superimposed mouth onto the other actor's head so that it follows their movements realistically," creator Chase told Co.CREATE.
"A typical one — to two — minute video takes about four hours to make, but I’m getting faster at it every time." The effect isn't seamless, but it's striking. Most of the mashups blend genders, like the below videos featuring Natalie Portman/Will Ferrell and Jennifer Lawrence/Jonah Hill, but there is a video of the famous courtroom scene in A Few Good Men between Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson that brings something different to the project. Prepare to be creeped out by FaceMashups.
