A Hologram For the King : Tom Hanks, currently starring on Broadway in Nora Ephron's play Lucky Guy, will finish his run on July 3, and then return to the movies. He has now set up a new project: A Hologram for the King, based on a 2012 novel by Dave Eggers, in which the central character is a middle-aged, self-employed consultant trying to sell a hologram teleconferencing system to the Saudi Arabian king. Hanks will be reteaming with Tom Tykwer, who shared in directing him in Cloud Atlas. [Variety]
Annie : Having secured young Quvenzhane Wallis (Oscar-nominated for Beasts of the Southern Wild) to star as a little orphan girl, Jamie Foxx to play a "variation" of Daddy Warbucks, and Will Gluck (Easy A) to direct, the producers of movie musical Annie are now thinking outside the box for an actress to co-star as the mean Miss Hannigan. Sandra Bullock, who has already turned down the role once, is back in the mix; she is said to be in "early discussions" (again!) for the movie, which is aiming for release at Christmas 2014. In a World Trailer: Lake Bell wrote, directed, and stars in a romantic comedy about the highly-competitive world of movie-trailer voiceovers. She finds herself in competition for jobs with her father (Fred Melamed), which leads to some unexpected, but very funny, complications in the new trailer for In A World, which also stars Rob Corddry, Ken Marino, and Nick Offerman, and opens in theaters on August 9. The Wolverine Trailer: We've seen the U.S. trailers for The Wolverine, but how is Marvel trying to sell Hugh Jackman's claws in the U.K.? A new launch trailer, introduced by Jackman, reveals that it's pretty much the same pitch, but with some delightful, action-filled twists. The movie opens in the U.S. on July 26. [Empire]
