Narc : Though Zac Efron has worked hard to leave behind his family-friendly image as a past star of Disney TV shows, his latest role takes full advantage of his All-American looks. In Narc, he'll play a star college student who is arrested on a drug charge and then becomes an informant for the police. It's based on a true story and has been pitched as a "college Donnie Brasco ," referring to the 1997 movie starring Johnny Depp as an FBI agent who goes undercover in the Mafia. [Deadline]
Travis McGee : Leonardo DiCaprio is serving as one of the producers of Travis McGee, based on The Deep Blue Good-by, the first of a series of novels by the late, great John D. MacDonald that featured a socially-conscious "salvage consultant" who lives on a house boat in Florida. Boston novelist Dennis Lehane, whose work has served as the basis for Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone, and Shutter Island, has been hired to write the screenplay; the movie is envisioned as a star vehicle and possible franchise for DiCaprio.
