Concept designer Brian Matyas created art for the Alex Proyas' scrapped adaptation of John Milton's epic poem, Paradise Lost . The film was set for production about a year ago, but budget concerns overwhelmed the story about Lucifer's descent into hell and transformation into the Satan. Proyas' plan to create elaborate sets for Heaven, Hell, and the Garden of Eden had already reached a $100 million budget — and as well all know, these numbers are never that firm. Legendary Pictures feared increases, and paradise was indeed lost.
Fans of The Crow and Dark City director Alex Proyas were excited to see him take on a project of this scope. His penchant for dark, textured visuals would have been a great addition to the action-packed biblical drama, which is now evident in this concept art. We love the gilded biomech feel of these flying angels and demons. Several of the costume designs appear to be influenced by human anatomy. Also, yay ladies! Thanks to Brian for not drawing something insanely boobtacular. Do these designs also reveal that Lucifer was a woman in Proyas' film?
